6th grade keyboarding/spreadsheet applications

Right now the 6th graders don’t have passwords yet. When they get passwords they will be able to get on the computers and begin typing. We will be typing letters and documents about the history of computers, how computers work, the internet, internet safety, etc.

The first half to the year I do not grade on speed. After the Holiday break I will begin grading on speed. This allows the students to get used to the keyboard. So for now the students should concentrate on being as accurate as possible. Points will be based on how well they type using spelling, grammar and spacing, as criteria.
We will take the keyboard test on Tuesday of next week. If your student does not score as high as they would like or you would like for them to, they can retake the test. The test can be retaken as often as needed. However, it cannot be corrected.  Homework can also be corrected. The students will have one week to correct the work after it has been graded.

Here is the first typing assignment. Students are to copy this letter. We are working on formatting, spacing, spelling, grammar, tab, learning about input, output and what a computer does. The terms we are learning are input, output, processing, data, software, and computer program.
Here is the second typing lesson 16. Practice it 3 times.
